Calling James Annan and Brian Schmidt...

Richard Lindzen is in a betting mood

Q I read that you bet one of your colleagues that the Earth will actually be colder 20 years from now?

A I haven't bet on it, but I figure the odds are about 50-50.

If you look at the temperature record for the globe over the last six years, it's gone no place. That's usually the way it behaves before it goes down. In fact, I suspect that's why you have this tsunami of exposure the last two years, with Gore's movie and so on. I think that this issue has been around long enough to generate a lot of agendas, and looking at the temperature records there must be a fear that if they don't get the agendas covered now, they may never get them.

Of course, when challenged to put his money where his mouth is Our Dick backed out. As James Annan wrote
Richard Lindzen's words say that there is about a 50% chance of cooling. His wallet thinks it is a 2% shot. Which do you believe? He says he was misrepresented in the quote on the reason.com site - can we expect to see a correction, and headlines in the sceptic press along the lines of "Richard Lindzen thinks there is at least a 2% chance of global cooling"? I'd probably take bets against that happening, too - and 50:1 odds against it seems reasonable in this case!
But he does win the Godwin prize

Q That's encouraging. Because I find the indoctrination at schools to be pretty relentless. On a recent Grade 7 test my daughter was asked something to the effect of, "How are you going to educate your parents about global warming?"

A I know. It's straight out of Hitlerjugend.

"They all realize that Gore's book was a sham. They appreciate that Michael Crichton at least included references."

Even if those references included doctored graphs which misrepresented the truth.

I thought Lindzen was supposed to be some brilliant guy. He seems more like an idiot to me and an arrogant one at that.

His iris idea is just stupid. Any moron can come up with a theory that has nothing to do with reality. That's not science, it BS.

Yes, telling your parents what you learned in school about global warming is just like spying on them and turning them over to the authorities to be sent to Dachau if it turns out they are helping the Jews.

Lindzen is such a nutjob. The National Post is must-read journalism if you enjoy tracking right-wing loonies.

I guess the IPCC scientists are like the SS.

Lindzen really is losing it. Here's some juicy quotes from a BBC article that ran today.

Richard Lindzen, Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who describes Exxon Mobil as "the only principled oil and gas company I know in the US."

"They have a CEO who is not going to be bamboozled by nonsense," he adds.

Well, after all, "CC" is "SS" in Russian and ICCP is very nearly CCCP (Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics)

The National Post ran a huge series called The Deniers, except that three of the scientists they profiled denied they were deniers. One, Nigel Weiss (spelling?), threatened to sue, and the Post issued a grovelling apology about two weeks ago.

No no, fourth anon. Try to keep this straight:

Environmentalists are the SS.

Climate scientists are the Gestapo.

Jim Hansen is Himmler.

Gore is Hitler.

There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Steve, you may address me as "Algeranon", if you like.

And thanks for that clarification.

The Denialist code is all just a wee bit confusing. It makes my little mousy head spin, especially since they seem to keep changing the code (undoubtedly to say ahead of the SS)

Eli should number these damned posts.

Can you do that Eli?

Otherwise, it's hard to keep all the mice straight. We all look alike you know.

Dear Mice, on entering, please take a number. We like 5.

OK:) I'll see what Blogger has on offer.

The Ukrainians use an I sort of like the Romance langs and germanic langs, like english, do.

And the gulags were Ispravitelno-trudovoi lageri (corrective-labor camps).

So, the ICCP is the Corrective-Soviet Socialist Republic, using a Ukrainian I as a tribute to the Ukrainian famine the envirocommunists want to recreate in the West. And now you know the Rest of the Story!

Where's my Nobel for Economics?

And by the way. Species extinctions are mostly caused by the animal rights movement. The animals are coddled so much they learn to depend on government and human intervention and handouts and lose their natural survival instincts. But the MSM and the science Nazis won't tell you that little truth!

anonymice - if it's too big a hassle to use a google id? please put your name at the end or beginning of the post. and if you want to BE anonymous, put, say, Anonymous 1 if you're the first poster bein' anonymous. And everyone else be on the honor system - call yourselves anonymous 2 etc.

This is just a suggestion and it may be idiotic for some reason, but i'm sleepy.
