I don't think we can stay below 2C unless by some miracle we change our DNA bits that make us act the way we do now.
Given Michael Mann's recent "tipping point" in "2036", I propose we start setting parameters and costs for a hard landing and a soft landing (medium landing?).

A more clearly marked equator might help, perhaps starting with a white stripe the width of the ITC
