The wisdom of the bunnies

Lucia is trying assign homework about Zbigniew Jaworowski, which has got to be one of the silliest things that anyone ever tried, especially since Jim Easter, aka the boojum (and Eli does miss his posting) cut him up into tiny pieces and left him for stupid. This is not a subject that needs further work.

Anyhow, Eli being thrifty left a pile of Rabett droppings over at Rank Exploits which should not be wasted, and constitutes his last words on Ziggy

Guys, there are some Poles you should not look at through a ten foot peep hole.
Which is good, but not maybe as good as his reply to Hans Erren on Deltoid who opined
The last word on stomatal density has not been written yet:
To which Eli responded
Hans, as a visit to any library shows, the last word has never been written on anything:), otherwise how would assistant professors get tenure and the tenured get even?
Anyone else wanna play?

So Lucia fell for or bathed in some outdated stuff and is giving it new life for those who think her site's credible -- someone like George Will's research dork? Someone who'll be attracted to find old stuff, easy to refute, but republished by some blogger so all the refutations are a link or two away, and can be avoided. So they can claim it's a legitimate source by not clicking or searching beyond.

Might the wabbet be interested in a pdf of 'some are boojums'?

It's sizeable. 979 kb!

Offer limited to trustworthy lagomorphs and other selected and respected bloggers (see the wabbet's blogroll), terms and conditions apply.

To be fair, I don't think Lucia buys ZJ's work. I'm guilty of bringing him up because the CA crowd were talking about the latest from Garth Paltridge. Steve M introduces him as a famous mainstream climate scientist while I merely pointed out that he's a "science" adviser to Tim Ball's Natural Resources Stewardship Project (dammit I feel so dirty when I type that) and that he shares that honor with some greats like the Z man and Bob Carter (nee Galilei).

But the homework was odd.

If it's gonna go John Galt and disappear, Rabett Labs would be quite happy to play host.

Eli says "the last word has never been written on anything"

Horatio is curious:

How does Eli know this to be true?

Ayup. My thoughts as well for the purpose of these sites: facile legitimacy.

Best,

Boris is correct. I don't buy jZ's work. I would think that was obvious to anyone who actually read the post.

It appears practically no one buys JZ..

Based on comments most had never heard of him until Boris brought up the name. (I think one of the Andrews had though. He seems a bit miffed the rest of us aren't impressed.)

The "homework" was because Boris introduced him to us but didn't provide us a clue as to what he thought. Boris might do a quicker job explaining the errors than anyone else.

Boris declined on account of the weather. The weather is just as nice here as in Tennessee.

JZ may have joined the ranks of Tom Chalko: People who few bother to specifically rebut.

Claim: "Accurate but untrue" -- pathetic.

This stuff is not hard to check.

Actually, Chapter 7 of Lawrence SOlomon's "The Deniers" buys ZJ :-)

I've met at least 2 or 3 deniers* who specifically buy and push Jaworoski, the latest one being on the BBC blog run by their environment reporter. No matter how often I point out that he has been refuted and nobody takes him seriously, and that you can't claim simultaneously that Jaworoski blows out of the water the old CO2 levels but yet also that warming came before CO2 levels, they still repeat the same rubbish.

* denier, as in someone who densies the current warming is largely our fault.

Eli & Lucia,

you may think that no one buys JZ, but here in Poland he is considered by many to be a serious expert on climate change.

Here you can see him on a popular tv show, aired in January on Polish National Television:

(Jump to 3:55 and 5:02 to see some familiar data)

Compared to Zbigniew Jaworowski, George Will is a very honest skeptic. Maybe you should not look at Ziggy through a ten foot peep hole, but unfortunately he's quite effective and has already influenced the Polish public opinion & politicians.

Eli is not very surprised. Lubos gets mileage out of his alignment with the Czech government on climate change. OTOH translating the Boojum into Polish might help a bit. There are other links which do a great job on ZJ too.

Just for the record (since you don't read Polish), I've done some debunking myself here.
