G-8 heats up

There have been massive riots in Rostok ahead of the G-8 summit to be held in nearby Heiligendamm. Almost none of this has made its way into the US press and not so much in the English papers, although the BBC has a feature. Over 16,000 police are in Rostok and maybe five times as many protesters, the vast majority of whom are peaceful. However, there were at least 2000 violent anarchists in the crowd. The effect that this will have on the summit is to be seen. To the extent that this weakens Chancellor Merkel's position and diffuses reporting on the summit itself, the consequences could be grave

Any day now we'll hear Brian Kilmeade proclaiming on Fox&Friends that [insert random terror attack somewhere in the world] is good for "our side" since we won't have to talk about global warming.

Let's hope that once reporting does commence stateside, there'll be fewer misquotes. [I believe you know some German, no?].
