Eli Rabett, a not quite failed professorial techno-bunny who finally handed in the keys and retired from his wanna be research university. The students continue to be naive but great people and the administrators continue to vary day-to-day between homicidal and delusional without Eli's help. Eli notices from recent political developments that this behavior is not limited to administrators. His colleagues retain their curious inability to see the holes that they dig for themselves. Prof. Rabett is thankful that they, or at least some of them occasionally heeded his pointing out the implications of the various enthusiasms that rattle around the department and school. Ms. Rabett is thankful that Prof. Rabett occasionally heeds her pointing out that he is nuts.

There's a very funny S.J. Perelman travel book in which he describes the first efforts at contact lenses. IIRC, it dates from around 1948.

@Eli and Brian
If you were in Qatar and were approached by Lord Monckton, would you
A) punch him in the face
B) spit on him
C) avoid him
D) heckle him
E) none of the above
If I saw Al Gore, I would probably just heckle him, although if I had a delicious pie handy i would throw it at him I think also.
Lumpus spunkydrawers--
If I met Monckton, I would deal with him in a civil manner, but eviscerate him with evidence.
Blue Rondo a la Turk and Take Five became so popular that they were on jukeboxes in luncheonettes. Which is sensational for a jazz tune.
F) Giggle
