Karl Doenitz on Adolf Hitler
From the Nuremberg Interviews:
[Hitler] always seemed reasonable and his demands seemed for the good of Germany. Now I see that he had too little consideration for the other peoples, such as the Jews....
Well, that's one way to put it.
Maybe he did deserve a ten-year sentence.

IIRC the ten years was for association with slave labor practices in U-boat production. He was in for rather worse than that for initiating unrestricted sub warfare in the Atlantic, but was rescued from that fate by another German Grand Admiral who conveniently remained in a position of influence.
To me, what is surprising is that over 100 Allied commanders wrote letters to Donitz, expressing support for him, and voicing concerns about the fairness of the trial, etc.
