Eli Was Once Young

  1. Eli, not everybody will easily see the close conection of this item to Climate Change. So I'll point this out.

Fats Domino, whose name inspired Chubby Checker (remember The Twist??), lives in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 2005 when Hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans, there a few anxious days when Fats could not be found. Was Fats among the 1,00 fatalities??

    Fats a Fatality??

    R&B fans worried. But then...

    Fats Was Found!!

    Whew!

  2. If you look to your right, you'll catch a glimpse of Tony Watt's severed arm on the floor.

I agree. I've met Eli and the claim he was once young seems an unproven hypothesis, perhaps not as far out as cold fusion, but one to be treated with careful skepticism.

  5. Indeed. I, too was a Fats Domino fan-we would punch that button on the jukebox and yell out, "Is that you, Fats?" To which he would dutifully reply, "Yes, it's me, and I'm in love again."

Also, I imagine the inspiration for Fats Domino's name came from the great Fats Waller.

  6. I grew up in Idaho and Utah. Fats Domino? Was he ever on the radio in Whitebread Land?

To be more clear, I was probably too young to recall them, when Domino had his earliest hits -- but we did get Chubby Checker. No early Stevie Wonder. A lot of Motown missed the mountains.

So the recent PBS special on Fats, "Walkin' Back to New Orleans," was a great little chunk of history. Did you see it?

Or just buy some of his music from the Tipitina's Foundation. It's a small, thing, really, but it helps fight global warming just a bit, remembering the victims of Katrina.
