The ad, in which Gingrich and Pelosi don awkward smiles while talking about clean-energy solutions, is coming back to haunt him, along with other statements he's made about climate change, as he officially launches his presidential bid. While Democrats have a long and winding list of grievances against the former House speaker, his past environmentalism could cause problems on the political right.
The early complaints are coming in large part from a former aide to Congress' No.1 climate change skeptic, Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla. The ex-aide, Marc Morano, has virtually devoted his blog ClimateDepot to lambasting Gingrich's stance on energy issues.

Interesting possibilities:
ReplyDelete1. Newt and Inhofe - bad blood?
2. Morano wants reality acknowledgment to be as taboo as raising taxes to Repubs, and is using this as a tool to that end.
3. Morano has a favorite alternative candidate to Newt who he thinks will benefit if Newt is hurt.
4. Morano knows that Newt won't win and would like to claim credit for helping take him down.
5. Morano has something personal against Newt.
My vote is primarily #2, somewhat overlapping with #4, and other motives might contribute.

Interestingly, there's nothing there on John Huntsman acknowledging reality, but Morano has dedicated half of the website to attacking the Newt.
Wonder what Morano's long-term career goal is? Secretary of Oil in the Palin White House?
