Rejection is fungable

Much popcorn is being consumed across the land as birther heads explode with the release of Obama's "long form" birth certificate. Lucia thought she was being cute by posting a copy, but ran into Kim, her house all arounder who is entertaining the masses. Matt Honan at Mother Jones made a flow chart so everyone can understand the game, and Eli made a few changes, very few changes, which tells this bunny that rejectionism is the same no matter what the subject, climate change, evolution, vaccines, birthers, tobacco and more.

  1. I think ridicule may be the vulnerability of denialism. Facts obviously are useless in killing zombie myths, but if we can get the public to see how ludicrous their inconsistent and contradictory arguments are, there is a chance they will have a hard time getting their point over through the raucous laughter.

  2. You could modify this one too:

    http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1FRcuu/www.good.is/post/flowchart-should-you-pay-attention-to-the-royal-wedding/

and replace the Royal Wedding (or the National debt) with the birthing stuff.

  3. Hey, Eli:

    Great diagram!

You're not giving full credit to Fred Singer. I protest on S. Fred's behalf. And you should cite Lindzen also.

OK, OK, you can call it rejectionism.

BTW I took a break from wall-to-wall coverage of the Royal Wedding to type this, so I hope you are properly appreciative. (Just kidding. The Royal Wedding is of even less interest to me than a border war in Bolivia).

  4. Irish users of Twitter might take exception to "Twitter is to lies what Ireland is to drinking". I mean, what is a drunken Irish guy or gal to do when they want to Twitter their buddies?

    Irish Queer (i.e. Abstemious)

  5. Horatio always suspected this stuff was loopy, but his mouse finger is tired from scrolling so much.

  6. spelling, I guess, since it's in the title:

    fungIble:

"being of such a nature that one part or quantity may be replaced by another equal part or quantity in the satisfaction of an obligation"
    (per Merriam-Webster via google)

Nice chart, but the situation needs resolution. Comic relief is welcome, but I note that fake skeptic commenters have discovered that they can clutter up real discussions and make us all waste our energy. New level of nuisance, neverending.

Susan, not to worry. It may take twice as many muscles to frown as to smile, but it only takes a minute to type "f*ck you" to a troll.

  8. Dear Mr. Dr. Professor Rabbit, Sir,

The concept of, as you say, "renting a scientist" has sent the pack into the most distressing howling imaginable and I've resorted to the computer room for temporary refuge.

While I'm here, I am wondering if these fungables that you speak of might perhaps respond to fungicides. Mind you that I am aware that this might be an outrageously stupid question, but bear in mind that our first hand experience with fungi out here in arid wide opens, is fairly limited.

    Sincerely,
    Wiley
