Popcorn

As Ethon feared Roger is playing little brother, you know the one, having picked, picked picked, is crying that someone slammed the door of their room and included him out. Pretty much the same stuff as in this post, with the addition of the ""censored material""(double scare quotes) and with an interesting comment
I don't much read RealClimate anymore
Considering that Technorati has the other place at 15,000 or so, and Real Climate at 800, Eli doth see the glint of envy, considering that Roger pretty much invented the climate blogging business. Ethon and Eli enjoyed the reaction of Roger and the gang. Maybe he will go and start his own blog? Roger could guest over here at the 71000 most popular place. . . . . . Nah

UPDATE: The beat goes on....Real Climate has put up a post on the Vecchi and Soden article that touched all this off. The boys are turning postively Rabett like, the title of the post is Hurricane Spin and the link is Shear Turbulance. Broadway next week. Anyhow, go read it, including the comment by Vecchi. (to be continued.....)

  1. "I don't much read RealClimate anymore" -- Roger Pielke

Is that kinda like saying "I don't do quagmires", which Donald Rumsfeld once famously said about Iraq.

"Roger pretty much invented the climate blogging business"

I suppose that might be true, if you mean "blogging" spelled with an "f".

  2. Yes, the lady doth protest too much. Roger does get into a quick snit when it's not *him* who's doing the censoring.

Maybe he's just a little bit testy 'cause his book is not selling too well. Or maybe people are beginning to see through his "honest broker" nonsense.

  3. I'm sure that this incident is one of many that Roger will work hard to ensure they NEVER end up on his wiki site.

He's been guarding that rather zealously judging from the history.

  4. "I don't much read RealClimate anymore"

He's too busy reading his own old papers (for the first time) so that he can use them as "evidence" to support his newold arguments on his blog.

The coiner of the phrase "Lifting oneself up by one's own bootstraps" undoubtedly had someone like RP Jr in mind when they go their inspiration.

  5. Most galling to him might be the obvious decline in comment quality. The present high percentage of denialists has to be a little embarrassing since Roger uses that blog as one way of promoting himself professionally. OTOH I suppose he can just declaim responsibility for the commenters and hope that comparisons aren't made to how things used to be over there.

  6. Real Climate just pulled the plug on Pielke's latest attempt at cherry picking.

Roger needs to start bottling that cherry sauce and selling it on the internets.

Did you mean 'hoist on one's own petard' by any chance?

  8. I agree with Mr Bloom. Jr and daddy's place seem to be the last honest alternative (non-CA) refuge for delusionists, don't they?

My guess is that RP lost most of those "disagreeable commenters" when he changed his policy with regard to anonymous comments.

  10. Have to agree with Dano. Roger Pielke and little Pielke seem to holding on to some sort of last gasp of science nonsense. It's pretty bad.

But little Pielke is definitely better than his father at cultivating interest from journalists.

  11. In case anyone needs further evidence that Roger Pielke Jr. is a fave of the right-wing, his blog is being touted as one of the top ten sites for skeptics.

  12. I must admit: I was banned from Jr's place due to a rhetorical tactic I used.

I went back and counted all the FUD phrases, separated them out, listed the, then calculated their subtotal vs the total number of words in the comment.

Didn't go over too well. Might have been too blunt.

    Ah, well. Live and learn.

  13. Part of controlling the debate is to control what those who disagree with you can say. It is a well worn tactic practiced by the denialists, which is one reason Eli calls them denialists, besides the fact that they are in denial.

People tell bald face lies and then object when you call them liers....

  14. Dano, what does one call this specific equation? The FUD quotient? The Pielke parameter?

    Prometheus.
