The muddle has moved.....

Eli brings good tidings. Some of the furry climate change group are being quite critical of Roger P Jr. accusing him of being "horrors" (please note scare quotes) the congressional Republicans favorite son and their choice to testify at the recent US House hearing on climate. Here at Rabett Run, we view this with a mixture of giggles and pleasure. Three months ago, given a single choice whom would the Republicans have picked?
Look at who they lined up last December for the ultimate Inhofian Environment and Public Works climate hearing
Bob Carter of Australia’s James Cook University, who has had over 100 papers published refereed scientific journals, noted that “there is huge uncertainly in every aspect of climate change.

David Deming, a geophysicist from the University of Oklahoma
European Warm Period and borehole fan, see his testimony
Dan Gainor of the Business & Media Institute (the Boone Pickens Free Market Fellow who is about to tempt Eli to make a VERY bad change in one of those words)
Whatever Eli has said about Roger (and he has said a lot), the good Dodger is an order of magnitude improvement on those characters and well represents one extreme of the reality based debate.

  1. Pielke Jr. has burned most of his bridges with the Democrats on the Hill. His only choice now is to continue to play himself up as the "man in the middle" and that his contrarian nature will remain appetizing to right-wingers in Congress. Or maybe get a job with Cato, since he's already written for them.

And, of course, he can continue to troll for journalists with his blog.

  2. It's well worth the time to watch Pielke Jr.'s testimony on CSPAN. To put it kindly, it was not a good Pielke day.

At the end of the hearing, you can see the other three witnesses still at the table. Roger got up and left immediately.

  3. Not sure about the bridges to Democrats, but Pielke should certainly worry about preserving his bridges to the scientific community. If he loses the confidence of scientists, he might as well look for another job.

Calling a statement by the head of the national Academy of science "absurd" is not likely to help things in that regard.

  4. Pielke update: according a post on RC, he has been invited once again by the political party of climate change denial. He's giving more testimony this Thursday.

Let's see how he tries to angle in and protect his "blue dog" Democrat creds.

  6. Notice how Mike picked up the same point Eli did. We prequel other blogs. The point is obvious, but it got lost in the chaff.

  7. This little Rabbet hopped over to Prometheus and noticed that little Pielke is feeling a bit sensitive about his latest invitation from the Republicans.

Now why would Mr. Honest Broker be so worried?

  8. What's with all of the anonymous stuff? It's science, people.

  9. This evening RP Jr. posted an update stating that he has been disinvited by the Repugs. It's very sad.

  10. Steve, yes it's truly horrifying that the only people who will be speaking to Congress will be actual scientists.

    For shame on those Democrats!

  11. Eli is in the rather strange (for him) position of defending Roger. When you think of Roger, think of Madeline Albright, or Henry Kissinger and how they used visibility to move into power. The point of the whole thing is to be noticed and adopted.
