It is getting warm out there and the El Nino is showing no signs of slowing down. The Japan Meteorological Agency has a tool which shows the average monthly temperature in each month from 1890 to today. Eli has turned this into an animated gif using imgflp. ReplyDeleteConsider me a pessimist, but I'm not looking forward to after this El Nino, when things start falling back on the normal trend and we have to listen to another ten years of crappy arguments about a new pause.

The graph is pretty cool Eli, I will most certainly reblog it. It even worked on one of my denier friends. Right away he asked where did the data come from, and that helped too. It really makes the fluctuations stand out. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteFernando, I'm happy to take your bet. We just need to agree on terms, of course. Say, that the November & December 2015 results are within the bounds of the remaining 2014/2015 anomalies (that is, the two warmest years on record)?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have this question. Why is it, if you think the scientists at the JMA/Hadley Centre/GISS are corrupt and fiddling the data now, would it be expected that they would then stop fiddling and resume posting actual numbers immediately after their point is made? Why is such corruption only a part-time thing? Surely, scientists who were capable of spuriously indicating that 1998 was the warmest year on record in 1999, would be capable of repeating their fraud, especially as so many of them had that sweet government money and could prevent any sort of scrutiny. Why did they take the next 6 years off, until another spams of activity in 2005? That just seems bizarrely unvillainous.
