Water district election update from a guileless heavyweight

The title above refers to a San Jose newspaper article. I've mentioned a while back that I'm running for re-election, and it turns out it's going to be interesting.

People seem to have differing reactions to the column, so read it for yourself and I won't try to bias your view.

What I have been thinking for a while though in this runup to the election is to actually acknowledge the mistakes I've made. I've got one general category, and then one specific issue. The general category is dividing my attention on too many things. Here's an incomplete list of the memos I've written:  too many subjects. Obviously we do a lot more work than can be measured by memos, but those memos should usually be priority items. If I had chosen fewer subjects and put more time into them, we could have progressed further. (I'll still defend our progress overall, though.)

The other, specific issue is pretty technical but involves the best approach to resolving legal and environmental issues under both state and federal law for the protection of endangered steelhead salmon. We'd been attempting to get simultaneous state and federal permits but had been held up on the federal level. Some local environmental groups wanted to split the process to speed up actions to help steelhead under state law; our staff resisted this approach. A few months ago, our staff changed their minds. Maybe that could have happened two years ago instead - the split approach was the right one. Now we have to make up for that lost time.

Anyway, I think you can acknowledge mistakes while still doing a good job, and that's what I hope to do in this election.

And to be a good politician (or less guileless one), I'll also add that help is greatly appreciated.

Why would people want to re-elect a political bigot such as you Brian.

Any more anti-military comments been posted you agree with lately?

Nobody here agreed with my anti-fascist pig comments directed at you fascists. They are mine and mine alone, and I stand by them.

You need to get on those constitutional amendments if you want to remove our fundamental American rights, fascist pig, time's a wastin! Why do you hate us for our freedoms?

Tell us more about the Gulf of Tonkin incident and those WMD in Irag, fascist pig. Inquiring minds, namely mine, want to know.

I see Brian's hand in moderation has not changed. Haters hate and they gravitate to THE place where hate is great, Rabett Run.

And Thomas the editors of RR, Brian being one, remove much less venomous comments than your screeds about all who enlist in today's military have the blood of millions of innocents on their hands. Why? Because you are on their "side" and their silence implies some level of agreement. When commenters from the other side state something the editors do not agree with, they are very quick to jump in.

They remove nutty anti-science denier crap that drones on and one with nutjob crank science tomes.

You, on the other hand, just crank on utter irrelevant bullshit. Talk real verifiable science, fascist pig, then somebody here besides me might respond to your nonsense. Or even yet, respond intelligently on something about the actual post.

You just lied. Nobody here has responded at all about how I go about pushing your buttons. You are an anonymous liar here. I'm just exercising free speech critisizing your war mongering inanity that got us into these problems starting back in 1964.

I don't understand what San Jose politics are like, could try a catchy political campaign tune?

"Facist Pig" lol squawk squawk.

Thomas as it is to see as the sunrise, I am pushing your buttons and got you on this thread. Go think about that and squawk squawk so more.

"You just lied. Nobody here has responded at all about how I go about pushing your buttons."

Where did I claim that anyone responded to you and your hate?

Fernando - with the one exception of the Will.I.Am song in 2008, noone's come up with a catchy political campaign tune in the US for the last 50 years. I'm not going to change that, sadly.

Brian, this is an interesting chess game. The sex.com guy is going to hammer the $73 issue. The salmon guys will vote for you if you point out the legal issues were complex but you want to move ahead.

So why not prepare a plan to reduce water bills? Acknowledge the computer whiz sells good software to lower water costs, but explain a person who sells products in that line of business shouldn't have the ability to steer business to himself.

And I would get the Occupy movement behind you, if you haven't one so. Anything which remotely looks like a conflict of interest in politics will fire them up.

I prefer my politics as neutral as possible, but my first priority is honesty and not dogma, it seems you would do a better job. So you got an endorsement all the way from Spain.

The assumption that "the Occupy movement" is simply ripe for manipulation as a block of voters by any politician who chooses to "get them behind him" demonstrates a very poor understanding of what Occupy was/is about.

Right here, in your first post on this thread

Any more anti-military comments been posted you agree with lately?

I hate fascist pigs and thugs, which the US military, police forces and their control executives are rife with. That's called freedom of expression and freedom of speech in America. If you don't like it, that's tough.

Everyone here knows me as an educated and informed drive by troll, and so if you think I'm a regular here you are deluded. Dunning Kruger comes to mind since you can't even recognize the intent or significance of your previous statements and you fail to even admit to them.

Unskilled and unaware of it. Not only that, you are a former government employee most likely living on a government pension you have admitted to that much.

Last I checked, RabettRun and Brian's post about his work are not about any commenters who think they have taken ownership. Nobody's pulling anyone's strings.

Take it easy. Everybody's got something to hide 'cept for me and my monkey:

That's me claiming someone responded to one of your posts? Are you retarded?

Freedom of speech has zero, nada, zilch to do whether your comments get or stay posted on this blog. Again, are you retarded?

"Not only that, you are a former government employee most likely living on a government pension you have admitted to that much."

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Three wrongs in one statement. I have admitted to being on a government pension? Link please. Are you retarded?

Your posts suggest you may be a big pile of angry stupid.

"Last I checked, Rabett Run and Brian's post about his milking the taxpayers for free trips to meet Michelle Obama are also about commenters that are hating people in uniform that Brian silently agrees with not those who foolishly support Brian and his politically bigoted attitudes."

Fixed

Actually it does, because I am the one clicking on the button and as far as I can tell the only thing that gets moderated here is comment spam. And not deleting or moderating away a comment does not indicate the blog owner's approval or belief in a comment.

You just are a bundle of self projection and contradiction. I can fully understand why you wish to remain anonymous here and elsewhere. You just have nothing to say and can't seem to be able to formulate coherent thoughts.

Your government is broke and borrowing money like crazy to keep the carbon economy afloat. Primarily because of useless, unnecessary and lost wars.

Good luck on water commodities.

Actually it does not, but you are too stubborn to admit you are in error. Just like all the other errors I have pointed out.

Enjoy your bitterness and hate, may they consume you alone and not harm others when you flame out.

Forgot to add to the above, that is the reason to remain anonymous to steer clear of the bitter haters. You know the ones that shout fascist pig every chance they get.

Thomas Lee, that approach is self defeating. Besides I got a 20 year old grandson in the USA army, and he's not into fascism. I'd say he's more interested in electronics and blondes.

The best approach with our friends Anonymous is kindness. Sometimes these characters are somebody's 14 year old son practicing his trolling scales.

TLE writes: "Your government is broke ...." My government (US) has it's own currency. It can't go broke, it can just print more money. In fact it recently did this with no adverse effects despite the cries of Weimar! Weimar! Weimar! from the Ayn Rand dupes like Paul Ryan (and commenter Michael 2 over at ATTP's place).

Now, if you borrow in a currency other than your own and/or give up your currency (Euro states), *then* you can go broke.

David - yes, there are risks from having very little moderation of comments. OTOH there are other blogs with more focused discussion, so here's a nice place for bedlams.

Two issues I see in threads: one is threadhogging where one person is posting a third or half or more of the comments - that's not very interesting. The other is when two people go after each other, forever. Neither is something where I'd want to start deleting comments though.

Well, Brian, you are much appreciated by some of us who sometimes comment and sometimes lurk, or lurk and don't comment. Patience and tolerance are useful in the world I hope will survive. Thanks.

Luckily for you, you have Thomas Lee Elifritz to cover both categories.
