Maybe not quite honestly obtained. You can 'walk about' a bit and get indications of the country. In two cases I found traffic signs indicating a nearby town/city, so I got pretty close with those (within 150 km, which could have been closer if I had zoomed in more).
second best ever, two on roads I've driven: http://www.geoguessr.com/?v=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%3D%3D
18071 on a first attempt. I sort of didn't realise I could 'wander around' initially, so first up I got that it was Sweden but hadn't 'strolled' into the nearby village...
Yes, you could work out (nearly) anywhere if you have the patience. But some of those dirt tracks need a fair bit. The Russian hill top didn't allow it.
Two tips are side of the road (left hand side narrows it quite a bit), and road numbers - a lot of signs have them on, and GM shows them.
I don't allow myself to use another site though. It's good fun, and the kids are getting a lot out of it.
UPDATE: The spambots got clever so the verification is back. Apologies

getting regularly over 10000 is a goal.
ReplyDeleteI did 9918 first time out- nailed 3, but mistook South Sustralia for Baja, and Newfoundland for Norway.
ReplyDeleteMy wife and I do pretty well together. By myself I'm not patient enough and my last score was 8500.

ReplyDeleteThe homogeneity of the boreal forest at constant latitude is a killer- if it's taiga, it's taiga,
23824, thanks to some easily identifiable places. Glen Ord Distillery, for example (just google it). Or the train station of Carcross :-)

Cheat sheet.
ReplyDeleteIt would be more fun, if coverage were more evenly distributed about Earth.
Lucky strike: Being teleported right in front of the sign "Tasman Costal Track", 5966 points in one.
Since the game is based on google maps the locations are always going to be near roads and the roads are always going to have signs. . .
ReplyDeleteBTW are you guys reporting marks for one frame or for five?
23000-ish is somewherearound my record for five rounds. 0.02km will get around 7000 points.
ReplyDeleteI have had one location that was not on a road, but a grassy Russion hill top.
I have had one exact location twice - it was a dirt track in Queensland.
As said, there do seem to be a few countries that come up a lot - even with the larger land area. Google coverage has a large impact I suppose.

20130 for five frames- more addictive than educational since the authors have not been far off road or into the uninsurable- the geography is ~PG -13
