Climate Dialogue Hits the Big Time

Dr Inferno of Denial Depot has commented there on the proper mix of experts

Dr Inferno

I notice all the proclaimed experts in the discussion unquestionably accept the existence of so-called "carbon" gases in our atmosphere. Surely for a legitimate dialogue you need experts who are willing to question the very foundations of PCAGW.

How for example does carbon dioxide manage to float within the air itself being that it is heavier than air? Anyone who has held a diamond or a piece of graphite can attest that carbon is a solid, not a gas. As a gas it would simply fall to the ground as and so become solid. We see on Mars that the polar caps are made of carbon dioxide in it's true solid state.
Perhaps the interlocutors will take heed.

LOL, good one, I needed a laugh! Thanks!

Maybe on Dr. Inferno's planet the atmosphere is not well mixed and thus has the heavier gases forming the lower layers. This being the case, and Inferno's planet being of similar make up to this with a similar proportion of gases, then this could explain Inferno's lack of critical thinking ability for his 'little grey cells' have been poisoned by all that low lying noxious stuff.

Dr Inferno must be a happy man. Or a happy woman, I'm not sure about that. Professor Curry totally embraced the concept of blog science. Her blog is the only scientific evidence she comes up with! In the true spirit of dr Inferno we can say Judy's not just a professor, she's the world's very first blog professor!

This is about the craziest comment that I have seen. Haha! Good post.

What's this PCAGW? I've only just got used to being accused by deniers of peddling CAGW.

"this could explain Inferno's lack of critical thinking ability for his 'little grey cells' ..."

Should we let Lionel A in on the satirical secret that is the product of Dr Inferno's extremely capable "little grey cells"?

But it does speak to the idiocy of some of the denialsphere when one can't immeidately sift the satirical chaff from the actual wheat of denialism.

It's worth looking at the link to Dr Denial's site. There are lots of other points there that amplify his position on climate change. I think he states things quite well.

Well, once upon a time, someone testified to the House of Representatives:
'Now, Mr. Inslee pointed out that he thinks there is a physical explanation based on a blanket of carbon dioxide in the reflection. Carbon dioxide is heavier than air. Where it sits in the atmospheric profile, I don't know. I am not an atmospheric scientist to know that but presumably if the atmospheric--if the carbon dioxide is close to the surface of the Earth, it is not reflecting a lot of infrared back.'

I am sure that Dr. Inferno has a very long memory. He typically doesn't just Make Shit Up. He just clarifies shit made up by others ... :)

Yes John, but he was speaking on behalf of a social network of computational statisticians and plagiarists.

I ran across this one by the Gray Monk at WUWT. I don't know if he/she/it is satirical or just dumb:

"Actually the question is whether or not CO2 is the ‘evil game changer’ it is claimed. Research on nuclear submarines suggest a different scenario. The average CO2 level on an operational submarine may be as high as 2,000 ppm, but is generally around 700 ppm (I think Anthony has a post on this somewhere) which rather refutes some of the claims of ‘heat’ trapping as the submarines are able to maintain a fairly stable internal temperature, admittedly with air conditioning to regulate it. The bigger problem at the upper end of the scale is the narcotic effect on the brain. But at 700 ppm it is not measurable.

If Hansen et al are to be believed, these submarines should be unbearably hot after a very short patrol. They’re not. In fact some compartments have a heating problem."

That post by the gray monk is a beautiful thing ... though probably unintentionally.

Actually, I think the Grey Monk's on to something. I've noticed that the carbonated drinks in my Esky* are always at the same temperature as the milk and juices when I pull them out at the picnic. Explain that, Warmists! ;-)

That's one of Bastardi's arguments, too, more-or-less. (http://mediamatters.org/blog/2012/03/09/fox-news-science-again/186029 about 1:35 or so into the video) CO2 can't cause warming because it can't get up there in the atmosphere: its specific gravity is half again of that of air in general so it must necessarily sink to the bottom. Well, molecular oxygen and ozone are also heavier than air in general. (specific gravity of various gases here: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/specific-gravities-gases-d_334.html) Yeah. So why isn't the atmosphere stratified by its gaseous constituents, heaviest at the bottom and lightest at top?

perhaps turbulence, convection, molecular interaction as in Brownian movement. Whatever the cause, we know the gasses of the atmosphere are well mixed. Doesn't the very idea of a specific gravity of "air" imply a well-mixed medium?

Anyone who has accidentally dropped graphite flakes onto a neodymium-iron-boron supermagnet can testify to Dr. Inferno that the stuff floats in midair despite being solid as dry ice, so he can rest assured that CO2 is suspended in mid-air by superluminal rays from the agnetosphere of the iron sun.

I'm surprised Marc Morano has not asked the Department of Justice to release Judy's lead commenter, Manuel Oliver from house arrest so he can brief the House of Representatives on the remarkable phenomena he has revealed at past heartland conferences.

I don't bother with WUWT to realise that Inferno dishes out such as satire, I have a life to lead. Well what's left of it anyway.

Sheesh! This capatcha thingy is too tough this time, a smudge on its side not resolved even with that 'wonderful' magnifier tool. Time to roll the die and get a better hand!

Ah! That's better, in with a chance.

Obama can't come up with a few sentences that fit the facts either.

During his convention acceptance speech he said: "and yes, my plan will continue to reduce the carbon pollution that is heating our planet". And in his recent press conference he repeated this thought: "Now in my first term, we doubled the fuel efficiency standards on cars and trucks. That will have an impact. That will take a lot of carbon out of the atmosphere.... And we continue to invest in potential breakthrough technologies that could further remove carbon from our atmosphere."

The issue isn't important enough for Obama and his advisers to bother with, or, they can't describe the situation because they don't know what the situation is.
