And, that thread is less stupid than most over at Tallboke's.
For example, in this thread http://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2012/02/25/stephen-wilde-the-myth-of-backradiation/ , we learn that "Applying the Ideal Gas Law it is more likely that they [GHGs] cause an expansion of the atmosphere, a change in the environmental lapse rate and no change in surface temperature." (Apparently, the fact that the ideal gas law explains warming without invoking GHGs is so obvious that all one had to do is say the words "ideal gas law" and it is demonstrated without ever having to...well... demonstrate it.)
And, then in this thread http://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2012/02/25/hans-jelbring-stefan-boltzmann-law-and-the-construction-of-a-perpetuum-mobile/ , Hans Jelbring demonstrates that he doesn't know about the Lambertian distribution of radiation from a blackbody surface and has, at least so far, resisted all attempts by Nick Stokes to explain it to him!
The thing about Tattersall is that he admits right from the off (in his about section) that he's brain damaged.
Anybody who takes his preferred estimations of reality in any way seriously after that admission deserves, well , what they see on his site, essentially.
UPDATE: The spambots got clever so the verification is back. Apologies

smoke would cause cooling, as would mirrors unless they were carefully aimed :)

ReplyDeleteThat's why it's called the ideal gas law. It's like "all purpose seasoning," good for pizza, chile, whatever. Just sprinkle some on and it's good.
Hold up there! the skepticalists also have the adiabatic lapse rate! you always forget the adiabatic rate.
