  4. Monckton comes off as a smooth talker who's also a pompous know-nothing jerk. It's not surprising that he threatened to sue.

In the movie, Monckton claims that discovered a cure for his own case of Graves Disease, which is responsible for his bulging eyes. Monckton went on to claim that his nostrum also was effective for AIDS and for multiple sclerosis.

I LOVED this movie. Ten thumbs up. (I'm all thumbs).

  5. Interesting discussion over at Deltoid including comments from 'calum', who says he was associate producer on the film.

  6. Monckton has applied for two patents in 2008 and refiled applications in 2009 and 2010, when the respecitve previous application had expired (details). Given this pattern, I'd be surprised if he has done more than filing Form 1, which just starts the process. These applications are automatically terminated after a year, unless you pay the fees for Form 1 and pursue the application further; that's the point where it starts to cost money.

  7. I'm only part way through - just got to Plimer's dolomite proof that CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas. Priceless!

  8. Oh no Sou. I listened carefully to that bit. But I'm still not sure I actually heard someone say out loud that the acid "released" old carbon dioxide 'trapped' (held?) in the rocks. Completely barmy.

I should go back and check, but the rotten thing irritates me to death. I'll give myself a couple of days.

    haigh's chocolate bilby
(usually known as Minnie's Mum, all the Easter stock seems to be on the shelves. The choc bilby is a substitute for choc bunnies.

    A few ramblings.

1.The BBC has hitherto reported disagreements between scientists and contrarians without referring to lies and malpractice, except when these are alleged by the latter against the former. But this time Kevin Trenberth observed that "We are stuck with telling the truth. They tell lies and Andy Pitman spoke about 'people knowingly misinforming the public'.

If this is the beginning of a paradigm shift in reporting, it is overdue. Some busy experts in other fields and many lay people may be surprised because, they are totally unaware of such behaviour and compare the dispute to more genuine controversies with which they are familiar.

    2. I thought I saw Lindzen arguing that we can live with 5 degs.rise. (Which scale?). I can't find that shot just now , but could it be that Lindzen thinks he may be in need of a second line of defence?

    3. I suspect that they may have over edited David Archer's comment about the high level of CO2 during the end of a Snowball Earth episode. What they did include may have been lost on many of the viewers which is a pity. The BBC continues to avoid the science.
